How To Deal With Critical People (even if it's you)

This weekend I will be doing a message talking about being critical. I'll be writing some thoughts from my message prep, it's good stuff. Here we go. The Bible says God wants Christians to be different. In fact, here is the scripture for this weekend. It's found in Philippians 2:14-15, it says, "Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe." What does God's word have to say about dealing with this habit of being critical or complaining? Here are a few types of critics & complainers that God shows us in His word. Maybe you can relate, I think I've been each of them on different days of my life. These are from a great Rick Warren message that I read recently. Here is the first one for today...

1. THE "WHINER" -- David
Psalm 73:13 "Have I been wasting my time? Why take all the trouble to be pure? All I get out of it is trouble and woe." This type of person wakes up negative. They rise and whine. David does this all through the Psalms. Here is the tell-tale sign of the whiner is when they say things like: "It's not fair. I don't deserve this. Everybody else gets all the breaks." Life is not fair. God never said it is going to be fair. In fact, the fairness thing won't kick in until heaven or hell. Complaining or criticizing about it does not work.

Question, "What are you complaining about today?" Complaining is the sin that kept the Israelites out of the Promised land and it can keep you from fulfilling your destiny in Christ! Man! I have been a whiner so many times in my life! Recently by the way. Today I'm making a decision to not whine about my circumstances but I'm focusing on the goodness of God in my life! Will you join me?

Life's Healing Choices, Part 6- Repairing Relationships

Week 6: REPAIRING RELATIONSHIPS- THE RELATIONSHIP CHOICE:
I evaluate all my relationships, offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me, and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.

“Happy are those who are merciful to others... Happy are those who work for peace.” Matthew 5:7,9 (TEV)

1. I can FORGIVE others because God has FORGIVEN me.
“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” C.S. Lewis
“Be gentle and ready to forgive; never hold grudges. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” Colossians 3:13 (LB); Matt. 6:12; Matt. 6:14-15; Luke 6:37; James 2:13
“But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” Mark 11:25 (NLT)

Key thought- I will need forgiveness in the future

2. BITTERNESS doesn’t work.

Skittles Represent What You Have To OFFER.

The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.” Proverbs 11:24 (Msg)

Here are the 4 things that make up your life: 1. TIME 2. TALENT 3. TREASURE 4. TONGUE (Words)

Lessons from a Hoarder (Luke 12:13-21)
13Someone out of the crowd said, "Teacher, order my brother to give me a fair share of the family inheritance." 14He replied, "Mister, what makes you think it's any of my business to be a judge or mediator for you?" 15Speaking to the people, he went on, "Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot."
#1- Hoarders always need MORE.
