Prayer, Part 1

Today was a great day as a church family! I had the privilege to dedicate children for 5 families & we welcomed 10 people into the Kingdom of God. I talked about the importance of prayer in our lives. How do you get to know God through prayer? Often times we don't pray because we aren't sure how to, we think our requests aren't important or because we become easily distracted. Here are some of the notes from the message... the full message is available via iTunes.

PRAYER IS COMMUNICATING WITH GOD.
Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm 5:1-3

WHEN TALKING TO GOD...

PRAY WITH COMPLETE HONESTY.
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men… And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Matthew 6:5, 7 (Psalm 31:14-18)

PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT MATTERS TO YOU.
You are depending on God for whatever you are praying for!
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

PRAY ALL THE TIME.
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

STOP & LISTEN FOR GOD'S RESPONSE.
“… Listen, all you people… The Lord will stay with you as long as you stay with him! If you
seek him, you will find him. But if you abandon him, he will abandon you… For a long time, Israel had been without the true God… and without God's law. But in their distress they
turned to the Lord and sought him and he was found by them.” 2 Chron. 15:2-5

Life's Healing Choices, Part 6- Repairing Relationships

Week 6: REPAIRING RELATIONSHIPS- THE RELATIONSHIP CHOICE:
I evaluate all my relationships, offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me, and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.

“Happy are those who are merciful to others... Happy are those who work for peace.” Matthew 5:7,9 (TEV)

1. I can FORGIVE others because God has FORGIVEN me.
“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” C.S. Lewis
“Be gentle and ready to forgive; never hold grudges. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” Colossians 3:13 (LB); Matt. 6:12; Matt. 6:14-15; Luke 6:37; James 2:13
“But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” Mark 11:25 (NLT)

Key thought- I will need forgiveness in the future

2. BITTERNESS doesn’t work.
“To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, sensel…

Skittles Represent What You Have To OFFER.

The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.” Proverbs 11:24 (Msg)

Here are the 4 things that make up your life: 1. TIME 2. TALENT 3. TREASURE 4. TONGUE (Words)

Key Question- The average life span is 25,550 days. What will you do with your days?

Lessons from a Hoarder (Luke 12:13-21)
13Someone out of the crowd said, "Teacher, order my brother to give me a fair share of the family inheritance." 14He replied, "Mister, what makes you think it's any of my business to be a judge or mediator for you?" 15Speaking to the people, he went on, "Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot."
#1- Hoarders always need MORE.
