You Have What It Takes! (Father's Day Message)

This past Father's day I shared a message entitled, "You Have What It Takes!" The message is available via iTunes & the notes are posted below. The most important person in the home in regards to generational influence, is the father. Dad's are vital to passing on a legacy that will be focused on God's Kingdom instead of our own Mingdom. Father's, you have what is takes!

“The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him.” Proverbs. 20:7
I talk and talk and talk, and I haven’t taught people in 50 years what my father taught by example in one week. -Mario Cuomo

The Secret To Boys- Every boy wants to know from his Dad, Do I have what it takes?
The Secret To Girls- Every girl wants to know from her Dad, Am I lovely?
Father’s, You Are The Most Powerful Man In The World!

One of the Greatest Dad’s In All Of The Bible
(lessons from the life of Jehonadab)
Key Thought- He was zealous about God & His Word! (2 Kings 10:15-31)
“These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Key Thought- He Built His Family Around God’s Standards! ((Jeremiah 35:1-19)
“But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.” Psalm 103:17-18

How To Be A Great Dad (like Jehonadab) This Week!
1. You must accept their uniqueness.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
2. You must affirm their value.
-By paying attention to them. “He [God] pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail – even numbering the hairs on your head!” Matthew 10:30 (MSG)
-By showing affection to them. “I drew them to me with affection and love. I picked them up and held them to my cheek” Hosea 11:4 (TEV).
-By expressing appreciation to them. “God says, ‘You are precious to me. You are honored and I love you’” Isaiah 43:4 (NLT).
3. You must trust them with responsibility.
“Whoever can be trusted with a little can also be trusted with a lot…” (Luke 16:10 NCV).
4. You must correct them without condemning them.
-Never correct in anger. “Don’t keep on scolding and nagging your children, making them angry and resentful. Rather bring them up with the loving discipline…with suggestions and godly advice.” Ephesians 6:4 (TEV)
-Watch your words. “Don’t use harmful words. Use only helpful words. The kind that should build up.” Harmful words create hurtful memories. Put-downs and harmful words might motivate somebody in the short term, but they’re going to plant seeds of rebellion in your child’s life. Ephesians 4:29
5. You must love them unconditionally.
“Be kind and loving to each other, forgiving each other just as God forgave you in Christ” Ephesians 4:32 (NCV)
“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT)

Life's Healing Choices, Part 6- Repairing Relationships

Week 6: REPAIRING RELATIONSHIPS- THE RELATIONSHIP CHOICE:
I evaluate all my relationships, offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me, and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.

“Happy are those who are merciful to others... Happy are those who work for peace.” Matthew 5:7,9 (TEV)

1. I can FORGIVE others because God has FORGIVEN me.
“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” C.S. Lewis
“Be gentle and ready to forgive; never hold grudges. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” Colossians 3:13 (LB); Matt. 6:12; Matt. 6:14-15; Luke 6:37; James 2:13
“But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” Mark 11:25 (NLT)

Key thought- I will need forgiveness in the future

2. BITTERNESS doesn’t work.
“To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, sensel…

The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.” Proverbs 11:24 (Msg)

Here are the 4 things that make up your life: 1. TIME 2. TALENT 3. TREASURE 4. TONGUE (Words)

Lessons from a Hoarder (Luke 12:13-21)
13Someone out of the crowd said, "Teacher, order my brother to give me a fair share of the family inheritance." 14He replied, "Mister, what makes you think it's any of my business to be a judge or mediator for you?" 15Speaking to the people, he went on, "Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot."
#1- Hoarders always need MORE.
