Love At Last Sight, Part 2- The Art of Being Intentional

You can listen to this message right now by clicking here

This past week we talked about how to become more intentional in our every day lives. I used the story of Jacob & Esau to remind us that our everyday appetites & busyness can cause us to trade away our future one decision at a time. I want to encourage you to live intentionally this week for God's Kingdom. Be conscientious in how you treat those around you & go deeper in relationship with those God has placed in your life. Here are the notes from this weekend:

“Be very careful, then, how you live —not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.” Ephesians 5:15-17
"Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out." Romans 12:1-2 (MSG) (see also Proverbs 24:3, Proverbs 14:12, James 4:17)

Read Genesis 25:19-34  STORY OF JACOB & ESAU

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”  1 John 2:15-17 (NKJV)

Every person in the world has 3 appetites, they are:
1.  PASSION-  Temptation to feel “Lust of the flesh”
2.  POSSESSION- Temptation to have “Lust of the eyes"
3.  POSITION- Temptation to be  “Pride of life”

• Consideration-  Think of others FIRST.
“And look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own.” Phil. 2:4 (GN)
•Generosity-  GIVE to others first.
“The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.”  Proverbs 11:24 (MSG)
• Servanthood-  SERVING others first.
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”  Phil. 2:3 (NLT)
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many." Mark 10:45 (NIV)

“Don't let sin control the way you live; don't give in to sinful desires.” Romans 6:12

KEY QUESTIONS FOR THIS WEEK-
1. HOW WILL I FEEL ABOUT THIS DECISION IN 10 MIN., 10 MONTHS, 10 YEARS FROM NOW?
2. HOW WILL THIS DECISION AFFECT MY MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS?

KEY THOUGHT- DON’T TRADE WHAT GOD WANTS FOR YOUR LIFE OR THE MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS IN YOUR LIFE FOR A BOWL OF STEW.
